GATHERING OF BIRDS
Four hundred birds made of wax stand still on the gallery floor, each sculpted and handpainted with meticulous attention to each feather. Shira Zelwer presents a selection of 86 bird species observed in Israel, based on the book Birds of Our Land Atlas. Wax is a stable material that is also soft and pliable, and always in danger of melting, qualities that may be seen as analogous to human vulnerability. The artist uses it to create a parable about place, identity, and belonging.

Tel Aviv Municipality has launched an initiative to introduce 30 new outdoor sculptures across the city this year. “No Lifeguard on Duty” by the acclaimed artist, Guy Zagursky has just been installed. You can find this instant icon near the Reading power station on the northern stretch of the city’s beachfront promenade. At the picturesque estuary spot of the Yarkon River and the Mediterranean sea.

Shira took upon herself a very ambitions project, she created for the show no less than 373 new sculptures made of wax, employing old and new techniques to capture in them, as she repeatedly does in her works, life, death and humanity. Shira seized this opportunity to create her largest installation to date, in which she is inviting us, more than ever, to delve into her inner world.

Yifat Bezalel is now participating at Residency Unlimited based in Brooklyn, NY. RU residency focuses on network support, public exposure, project production and research assistance.
It is a unique opportunity to view and dive into Bezalel’s prominent large scale drawings at her temporary studio in NYC.

It’s been an unbelievable year! The exhibition of Shira Zelwer at the Tel Aviv museum of art was a resounding success and is now wrapping up. I wanted to thank everyone of you who came to see it. And for those who have not yet seen, you still have a few more days.
